10 NDP 2022 Highlights To Look Out For

Catching the National Day Parade 2022? From new military assets to the crowd-favourite Red Lions, here are some highlights to look out for whether you’re watching the show at the Marina Bay floating platform or from the comfort of home.

For the first time, there will be three female Red Lions jumpers performing at NDP celebrations.

Third Warrant Officers Sandy Wong and Shirley Wong will make freefall jumps at Bishan and Ghim Moh, as part of heartland celebrations on Aug 7.

If you managed to snag parade tickets, keep your eyes peeled for Second Warrant Officer Shirley Ng, who will be landing at the floating platform as the ninth of 10 jumpers.

Looking forward to the iconic F-16 fighter jets? This year, the parade’s signature "Salute to the Nation" bomb burst will be led by Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Lee Meiyi - the segment’s first female fighter lead.

This parade staple may seem straightforward, but preparations for it are far from simple.

The flag that will be flown, including the steel cables used to hook it onto the helicopter, weighs a whopping 1,250kg.

It takes 25 pairs of hands to roll up the flag, which is around a third of the size of a football field.

Fifteen flags, including spares, have been prepared for the flypast.

Expect a blockbuster film-type sequence in a display of the Navy's combatant craft medium vessels, with a high-speed boat chase of “intruders” on Singapore’s Marina Bay waterfront.

Naval divers also jump from RSAF’s new Chinook CH-47F into the waters of Marina Bay, in a move called helocasting.

You’ll get to see F-16 fighter jets in action a second time, along with Army vehicles such as the Hunter Armoured Fighting Vehicle.
